In times of crisis, community preparedness stands as a cornerstone of resilience. Our commitment to providing free disaster preparedness training is rooted in the belief that empowering individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills can significantly enhance a community's ability to weather and recover from disasters.

This training equips individuals with the tools to make informed decisions, mitigate risks, and effectively respond during emergencies, fostering a more resilient, proactive, and prepared society.

1. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training

Using training learned in the classroom and during in-person exercises, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers can assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT classes are now available to take online or in-person. 

You must be 18 years or older to sign up and a resident of the City of Hayward or the Fairview Fire Protection District/Five Canyons area.

Class size is limited to 60 participants. No walk-ins, pre-registration is required.

1. Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) Training

The goal is for emergency personnel to train members of neighborhoods, community organizations, or workplaces in basic response skills at their location.  NERT members are then integrated into the emergency response capability for their area.

Training consists of 4 hours of instruction at a date and time that is determined by your organization and the instructor.  

You must be 18 years or older to sign up and a resident of the City of Hayward or the Fairview Fire Protect District.

The minimum number of people per neighborhood training course is 15-20 people.
