Appointed by the City Council, the City Manager is responsible for overall City administration, including hiring and oversight of departmental leadership, fiscal affairs and budgetary management, and implementation of Council-established policies and priorities. Their role is crucial in ensuring the city runs smoothly and effectively.

The City Council has engaged Bob Murray & Associates to assist in our search for the next City Manager. The Recruitment Process:

Developing Our Candidate Profile: Bob Murray & Associates has spent the past month meeting with the City Council and other stakeholders to create a comprehensive profile for our ideal City Manager. This includes desired personality traits, management style, knowledge, skills, and abilities, along with education and experience expectations.

Active Recruiting: After finalizing the candidate profile, Bob Murray & Associates will advertise the position across various platforms. These include social media and sources such as Western City Magazine, PublicCEO, ICMA Newsletter, League of Women in Government, National League of Cities, California City Management Foundation, California City News, Local Government Hispanic Network, and the Careers in Government website, ensuring extensive reach within the local government community.

Screening Candidates: After the application deadline, Bob Murray & Associates will screen all resumes based on the established candidate profile criteria. They will conduct preliminary interviews, perform public records searches, and make recommendations for the final candidates.

Final Interviews & Selection: The Mayor and City Council will conduct the final interviews with the candidates recommended by Bob Murray & Associates before selecting the next City Manager.

Timeline for finding our next City Manager:

The recruitment opens on July 18, and applications are due by August 22. We aim to have a new City Manager selected and ready to start by the first quarter of 2025.
