The City of Hayward proudly announces the official launch of the Learn to Earn Tuition Assistance Program, a pivotal component of the city's robust COVID-19 economic recovery plan. The Learn to Earn program aims to fortify the local business community and displaced workers by providing tuition support to Hayward residents pursuing courses at esteemed institutions such as Chabot College, California State University East Bay, and other technical schools offering certificate and professional training. 

With a firm commitment to enhancing residents' marketability, the Learn to Earn program endeavors to counteract the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This program addresses the pressing challenges faced by the business community, particularly in employee retention and recruitment within technical and advanced manufacturing sectors. 

Prior to the pandemic, the San Francisco Bay Area experienced a highly competitive job market, posing challenges for businesses to locate qualified, skilled workers to fill vacant positions. The impact of COVID-19 further intensified these challenges, resulting in furloughs and job losses. As the economy continues recovery , businesses are grappling with the task of filling vacant positions and competing for a limited pool of skilled workforce. In response, the Learn to Earn Program emerges as a strategic initiative to bridge this gap and reinvigorate the job market. 

Key Highlights of the "Learn to Earn" Tuition Assistance Program include: 

• Empowering eligible Hayward residents with microgrants ranging from $500 to $2000 to cover educational and training expenses. 
• Embracing all Hayward residents impacted by COVID-19 or those aspiring to enhance their skills and competitivenessin the job market. 
• Prioritizing students enrolling in advanced manufacturing and biotechnology programs, offering increased grant amounts to bolster their educational pursuits. 
• Collaborating with esteemed institutions like Chabot College, California State University East Bay, and Eden Area Regional Occupational Program Center to facilitate seamless grant issuance and support students throughout their career pathway. 
• Hosting Workforce Development fairs to connect Hayward residents and Hayward employers.
