Hayward street closures to support restaurants and retail shops going forward as planned

July 11, 2020

HAYWARD, Calif., July 11, 2020— The closure of downtown streets this afternoon and evening to allow for expanded outdoor dining and encourage shopping has been planned and is being carried out in accordance with the current Alameda County Shelter-in-Place Order issued on June 18.

Today, the County Public Health Department issued a press release suggesting restaurants can’t rely on its June 18 order allowing outdoor dining and should adhere to more restrictive state guidance limiting restaurant activity to take-out service only until further notice.

The City of Hayward intends to go through with the street closure event as planned and will support local restaurants who choose to participate—whether by providing outdoor dining service or just takeout service.

The street closures will encompass B Street from Foothill to Watkins streets and Main Street from A to C streets, and is scheduled to take place from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Vehicles will be cleared from the enclosure area starting at 2 p.m.
