Hayward Neighborhood Alert’s National Night Out Car-A-Van 2021

July 22, 2021

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual event designed to strengthen our neighborhoods through police-community partnerships. The goal of NNO is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, build support and participation and most importantly, send a message to criminals that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

This year on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, (due to COVID-19), we will not celebrate NNO in the traditional manner with neighborhood block parties.   Instead, we are planning to have a CAR-A-VAN.

In partnership with Hayward Neighborhood Alert the evening will begin with a meet-up at Southland Mall at 5:00 pm.  A planned caravan style route covering residential neighborhoods will take place with police sirens and horns honking!  The route will be approximately forty-five minutes and we are excited to see folks and the support from our large community of onlooks cheering us on as we drive by!

At the conclusion of the route, back at Southland Mall, ice cream sandwiches provided by HNA will be served!

Participating in the CAR-A-VAN will be Hayward Police Officers, Hayward Fire Department, City Code Enforcement, Hayward Animal Services, Hayward Crime Prevention, Hayward Traffic, BART, Neighborhood Alert Block Captain Representatives, and vintage cars to name a few.

Come join the fun!

If you choose to plan a Block Party in your neighborhood, please visit the State of California’s COVID page for guidelines on how to safely gather.   Next year, hopefully, we will be back to our traditional (pre COVID-19 NNO celebration with our usual police department staff and city officials visiting our Hayward neighborhoods).  For those that are not familiar with NNO visit the National Association of Town Watch.
