Help shape future of former Caltrans lands

November 13, 2018

The City of Hayward will host a special community meeting Nov. 15 to discuss future development of nearly 100 acres of property once slated for construction of a State Route 238 bypass freeway through the hills above Foothill and Mission boulevards.

City staff and consultants will provide an overview of the State Route 238 corridor lands—previously owned by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans)—and some initial planning ideas for parcels remaining for development.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for the entire Hayward community to provide feedback on what new development of these properties should look like and what public amenities and benefits should be included and prioritized.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Matt Jimenez Community Center, 28200 Ruus Road in South Hayward.  Language-translation and child-care services will be provided.  No advanced registration is required.

Based on feedback received at the meeting and other input, the City will prepare a more detailed draft master site plan for each parcel, which in turn will be presented and discussed at a second community meeting to be scheduled in early 2019.  For information on the State Route 238 corridor lands, visit the project page on the City of Hayward website.
