The City of Hayward will hold a public grand opening and dedication ceremony for the new 21st Century Library and Community Learning Center at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, followed by tours and fun activities for all ages.

The new main library at 888 C Street in downtown Hayward is a three-story, 58,000-square foot building that sets a new standard in environmentally sustainable design.  A net-zero energy facility, the library will be entirely electricity self-sufficient without reliance on fossil fuels and will preserve drinking water by capturing, storing and recycling rain water for non-potable uses.

The building will house 50 percent more materials, including books and multimedia for all ages, 53 additional computers for public use, a digital media lab, and a Makerspace featuring 3D printers, robotics and textiles.

It also will contain multiple community meeting rooms, a separate Homework Support Center within the Children’s Library, works by local artists, a café and bookstore, and offer a range of additional services to the entire community.

No advance registration is required for the grand opening and dedication ceremony.  Just stop by.  For more information, call the Hayward Public Library at (510) 782-2155 or visit www.hayward-ca.gov/public-library.
