Early line closures starting today to manage heavy demand at Hayward COVID-19 Testing Center

HAYWARD, Calif., June 30, 2020—The City of Hayward COVID-19 Testing Center has reached its maximum number of people who can be served today and has closed the drive-up line to new vehicles effective at 12:30 p.m. today.

The Testing Center is experiencing heavy demand as community members seek clearances to return to work under employers’ COVID-19 workplace safety requirements and protocols.

To manage daily demand for testing within the Center’s 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekday schedule, the drive-up line will be closed when the maximum number of people who can be served has been reached.

The Center, operated by the Hayward Fire Department at Lot A on the Cal State University East Bay campus, is free and provides testing on a first-come, first-served basis regardless of income, place of residence or immigration status.

Mobile teams of specially trained Hayward fire-fighter paramedics also provide COVID-19 testing of residents and employees of nursing homes, at police departments, and for people experiencing homelessness and who are otherwise in need.

Health-care workers and first-responders can make advance appointments for testing at the Center by calling the City’s COVID-19 Hotline at (510) 583-4949.  The hotline call center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Both the Testing Center and hotline will be closed this Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day.
