Pledge to conserve water this April for the chance to win prizes

March 22, 2022

The City of Hayward is once again participating in the annual Wyland National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation, a friendly competition between cities across the country. Through the Challenge, Hayward residents who make the pledge to conserve water during the month of April have the chance to win prizes. This year, given California’s current drought conditions, it is doubly important to pledge to conserve.

Last year, Hayward residents made nearly 100 pledges, and the Wyland Foundation reports that Hayward’s pledges alone represented potential savings of nearly 300,000 gallons of water.

To participate in the 2022 challenge, residents can pledge to make water-friendly lifestyle changes, undertake home-based environmental projects, and more. Participants in the cities with the highest number of pledges are eligible to win hundreds of prizes. Last year, the Challenge awarded more than $50,000 in prizes to nearly 300 residents in U.S. cities. Residents in winning cities can also select a charity within their city to win a Toyota Hybrid SUV.
