Hayward Public Library Announces Library Card Design Contest

In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the opening of the Downtown Library and Community Learning Center, the Hayward Public Library (HPL) invites the community to submit designs for a future library card. One winning design in each of the five categories will be printed and made available to HPL patrons in Fall 2024.

Contest Rules & Parameters:

Participants may submit up to three entries each. All submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Entries will be accepted via email at Library.Contest@hayward-ca.gov and in-person at either library branch.

To participate, entrants must have a current Hayward Public Library card and reside, work, or attend school in Hayward. A panel of judges will select three entries from each category to be posted online for public voting. The public will determine one winner from each category. Winning designs will be printed and made available to HPL patrons in the fall of 2024.

Categories:

  • Ages 9 and under
  • Ages 10 to 15
  • Ages 16 to 18
  • Ages 19 and up
  • Library Staff only

Winners of the Library Card Design Contest will receive a prize package, public recognition, bragging rights, and exposure on social media.

All submissions become the property of HPL and will not be returned. No late entries will be accepted. Selected winners must bring their original artwork to a library branch within a week of the results announcement to ensure timely ordering and high-quality printing.

Submission Requirements:

  1. Designs must adhere to the library card and keychain dimensions (3.375” x 2.125” for cards and 2.625” x 1” for keychains).
  2. Designs must include the words “Hayward Public Library.”
  3. Submissions with incorrect spelling or inappropriate content will be disqualified.
  4. Only 2D art mediums are accepted (digital illustration, pen, paint, etc.). Photography is not allowed.
  5. All artwork must be original and free of copyright restrictions. No AI-generated designs or commercial logos/art allowed.
  6. Designs must be scanned at high resolution (at least 300dpi, 600dpi preferred). Accepted formats: .jpeg, .png, .psd, and .pdf.
