Man arrested for homicide on Santa Clara Street; father also taken into custody for being an accessory after the fact

HAYWARD, Calif., On September 4, 2024, detectives arrested Shawn Moayer, a 34-year-old Hayward resident, for the homicide that took place on August 26, 2024.

On August 26, 2024, at approximately 3:25 p.m., officers responded to the report of a shooting near the 22000 block of Santa Clara Street.

Officers arrived on scene and located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel responded and pronounced the man deceased at the scene. The victim was later identified as 36-year-old Hayward resident, Matthew Beck.

Detectives immediately began their investigation and identified Shawn Moayer as the man believed to be responsible for the homicide. On September 4, 2024, Moayer was located and arrested at a residence near the 32000 block of Endeavour Way in Union City and is currently in custody at the Santa Rita County Jail awaiting arraignment.

During the course of the investigation, detectives developed probable cause to believe that Moayer’s adoptive father, 59-year-old Union City resident, Houman Moayer, knowingly aided, concealed and harbored Moayer to prevent him from being taken into custody by law enforcement. Houman was also arrested on September 4, 2024, near the 32000 block of Endeavour Way in Union City and is currently in custody at the Santa Rita County Jail for being an accessory after the fact.

Chief Bryan Matthews addressed the arrests, stating, “The unwavering commitment of our detectives, coupled with the seamless collaboration across the department, was key to identifying and apprehending Shawn Moayer. Their methodical approach – gathering and processing evidence, conducting interviews, and following leads – ensured that Moayer was located and safely taken into custody.

Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Mr. Beck as they continue to grieve. We hope these arrests mark a meaningful step in their journey toward healing and justice for Mr. Beck and his family.”

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to the homicide is asked to call Detective Scinto at 510-293-7176.

The Hayward Police Department case number is 2024-48073. This was Hayward’s 10th homicide of 2024.
