Arrest made in 2023 homicide near B Street/Alice Street
HAYWARD, Calif., On Oct. 15, 2024, detectives arrested Deronne Taylor, a 26-year-old Hayward resident, for the homicide that took place on Oct. 2, 2023.
On Monday, October 2, 2023, at about 2:01 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of B Street and Alice Street following reports of a shooting. As officers responded to the area, the Hayward Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from an adult male who stated that his friend had been shot, and that he was transporting the victim to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Upon arrival at the B Street and Alice Street intersection, officers located evidence of a shooting. Officers also responded to the hospital where the caller had taken the victim and located three shooting victims.
The first victim, a 43-year-old male and Hayward resident, received medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The victim has been identified as Oscar Baires Martinez.
The second victim, a 44-year-old male and Hayward resident, received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. His identity is known but is being withheld at this time.
The third victim, a 32-year-old male and Alameda resident, received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The third victim was identified as the man who originally called to report his friend had been shot. His identity is also known but is being withheld at this time.
During the investigation, detectives determined that the original shooting reported at B St and Alice St was connected to the victims located at the hospital. Further investigative steps also identified Taylor as the man believed to be responsible for the shooting. Taylor was taken into custody on Oct. 15, 2024, and was booked at the Santa Rita County Jail for murder.
This investigation remains active, and additional details will be released as they become available.
