Incumbents lead in race for Hayward City Council seats
November 12, 2024
Four Hayward City Council incumbents were leading in the race for election to four seats on the City’s legislative body, according to updated partial election results released Monday by the Alameda County Registrar of Voters.
Councilmembers Angela Andrews and Francisco Zermeño were running first and third in the field of seven candidates for four Council seats and appeared headed for reelection.
Appointed Councilmembers Ray Bonilla Jr. and Dan Goldstein were running second and fourth and appeared to be on their way to election to their first full four-year Council terms.
Vote counting is anticipated to continue through the week with approximately 69 percent of votes counted thus far countywide, according to the Registrar of Voters.
The Nov. 5 municipal election marks the last time Council seats will be filled though at-large, citywide elections in Hayward. Under the new system in effect for 2026, council members will be elected by geographic district with only the City’s mayor still to be chosen by a citywide vote.
