Fatal Collision26000 block of Gading Rd

HAYWARD, Calif., On Wednesday, 11/20/2024, at approximately 1:33 p.m., officers responded to the report of a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian in a parking lot near the 26000 block of Gading Road

Officers arrived and located the driver and pedestrian still on scene.

During the investigation, it was determined the pedestrian had a medical emergency prior to the collision, which caused him to faint in the parking lot. The driver reportedly did not see the pedestrian and made a turn in the parking lot, striking the pedestrian who was laying on the ground.

The pedestrian, a 66-year-old male and Hayward resident, was found conscious and breathing and spoke with officers at the scene. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for treatment where his health rapidly declined, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The driver, a 52-year-old male and Hayward resident, was cooperative and provided a statement regarding the incident.

The pedestrian’s identity is known but is being withheld at this time, pending notifications to next of kin and proper identification protocols through the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.

Investigative steps are being completed to determine whether alcohol was a factor in this collision.
