Fatal Collision – Jackson Street/Santa Clara Street  

HAYWARD, Calif., On Monday, 11/25/2024, at approximately 9:54 p.m., officers responded to the report of a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian outside of the marked intersection near Jackson Street and Santa Clara Street. Witnesses advised the driver originally waited at the scene but fled the area, leaving a license plate that belonged to the involved vehicle behind. 

Officers arrived and located the pedestrian still on scene, suffering from injuries related to the collision. Medical personnel responded and transported the 68-year-old Hayward resident to a local hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. 

During the investigation, officers located the driver, a 55-year-old Hayward resident, traveling in the same vehicle, a small pickup truck, a short distance away. A vehicle stop was conducted, and the man provided a statement regarding the collision. The man was released from the scene, pending further investigation. 

The pedestrian’s identity is known but is being withheld at this time, pending notifications to next of kin and proper identification protocols through the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.  

Investigative steps are being completed to determine whether alcohol was a factor in this collision.
