The City of Hayward began accepting applications last week for grant funding and permits to hold public Special Events in Hayward during the new fiscal year that started on July 1.

Last year, the City introduced a new system to streamline, customize and make more accessible and transparent City processes for awarding grants, determining permit requirements and otherwise supporting the planning, production and staging of free events that contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of Hayward.

Total annual funding available to support Special Events fluctuates—as do, from time to time, individual maximum grant awards available through the program. During the previous fiscal year that ended on June 30, the City allocated $100,680 to support 14 events produced by more than 12 different organizations and the City of Hayward.

To learn more and apply for Special Events grant funding for the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year starting July 1, visit the Special Events hub here on the City of Hayward website or contact Zach Ebadi of the Hayward Community and Media Relations Division at SpecialEvents@hayward-ca.gov or (510) 583-3911.

Permitting requirements for Special Events and deadlines for submitting applications and associated documentation are determined based on event size, location and planned activities to best protect public health and safety and appropriately manage legal liability.
