Celebrate the Weekes Branch Library reopening on Aug. 16
The Stack | August 2025

Join the Hayward Public Library to celebrate the reopening of the Weekes Branch Library with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 3 to 5 p.m., ahead of the library’s official reopening on Monday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m.
The celebration will feature live performances, a donor acknowledgement and will provide attendees with a sneak preview of the new space and all it will offer.
Interior improvements include fresh paint, removal and replacement of worn and damaged carpeting, furniture and shelving, as well as a new display screen and AV equipment in the updated Community Meeting Room. Exterior improvements include fencing, landscaping and safety enhancements, fostering a tangible sense of place.
In collaboration with the Hayward Arts Council and Hayward Unified School District, Weekes Branch will have an art gallery that hosts rotating local art displays. The branch will also include a long-requested Friends of the Hayward Public Library Bookstore, which will sell gently used books to support Library programs.
The City of Hayward authorized the use of Community Development Block Grant funds and special revenue sources such as grants from Hayward Promise Neighborhoods, the Friends of the Hayward Library and a donation from the Donna L. & Edward E. Martins Foundation to fund these much-needed improvements at the branch.
For more information visit the Hayward Public Library website here, and be sure to visit the Weekes Branch when it is fully operational beginning Monday, Aug. 18.
