Ensuring Safe and Reliable Drinking Water for Our Customers
The Leaflet | September 2025

The City of Hayward’s drinking water, purchased by the City from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), is delivered to the City through the San Francisco Regional Water System. Most of this water originates as snow melt from the Sierra Nevada Mountains, travels through the Hetch Hetchy aqueducts, and includes treated water that the SFPUC produces from its local watersheds and facilities in Alameda and San Mateo Counties.
To safeguard our water supply from these sources, the City collaborates with the SFPUC to ensure that Hayward’s water continues to meet and exceed federal and state drinking water standards. The results of this monitoring are reported annually to confirm that the water quality meets these guidelines. The City is pleased to report that in 2024 the water delivered to Hayward customers met all state and federal drinking water health standards.
