HAYWARD, Dec. 12—With the last Hayward area road to the bay closed in recent weeks, Hayward Area Chamber of Commerce directors this week pledged support to campaign to open bayshore roads for sportsmen.
At the request of Directors Frank Faria and Bruno Buti of Meekland Avenue. President Val Hollingsworth instructed the chamber road committed to seek support from county Supervisors in reopening roads to the Bay.
Buti charged that duck hunters, fishermen and sailing enthusiasts have been blocked from reaching the Bay through the closing of the Oakland Airport road, the Powder Company Road and the Russell City Road.
The Russell City Road, a county thoroughfare, was recently closed by order of the county health department, however. Buti declared that there are no homes in the near the bayshore and that the was the last outlet to the Bay from this area.
Directors also endorsed Archbishop John J. Mitty's "Boy's Town" project in Moraga Valley, and continued the next regular meeting scheduled for December 24 to January 14, at which time President-elect Fred Cox will entertain directors at a dinner meeting in the Castro V Gardens, Castro Valley.
