Celebrate Bike Month this May!

May 28, 2024

May is Bike Month! To celebrate, the City of Hayward, Bike East Bay, and several other organizations are hosting events throughout the East Bay. You can participate through a pledge to ride and by attending events and classes hosted by Bike East Bay. Donations to Bike East Bay between now and May 31st will be doubled up to $50,000.

On May 16th, the City of Hayward hosted “Bike to Wherever Day,” where anyone on a bike, scooter, or skateboard could refuel with free snacks and receive a free tote bag at one of our energizer stations located at the Downtown Hayward and South Hayward BART stations. From 7am-10am, over 130 cyclists participated in commuting to work, school, and other events.

Hayward’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) calls for partnerships with local bike shops and organizations to reduce barriers to biking through incentives, rebates, education, and more. The CAP also calls for infrastructure changes to make biking more accessible and safer. The Leaflet will report updates on CAP programs as they progress, and you can read the full list of CAP programs here.

Bike month is not over! There is still time to get out and ride your bike or attend an event. Learn more about the events and view the monthly calendar here.
