New Housing Production
Adequate housing also helps attract businesses, improves quality of life, and fosters long-term stability, making Hayward a more vibrant and resilient place to live.
Streamlining & Incentivizing:Recent steps taken to streamline and incentivize housing production include adoption of Objective Residential Design Standards, implementing online permitting and bumping up allowable density bonuses in mixed-income projects. |
Priority Development Areas:To meet housing need in sustainable ways, Hayward formed five Priority Development Areas that encourage compact, walkable, high-density, mixed-use development with integrated transportation systems near BART and along the Mission Boulevard corridor. |
Accessory Dwelling Units:To create more housing that is affordable by design and accommodates extended families, Hayward is encouraging Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) construction in single-family neighborhoods by establishing lists of pre-approved plans for detached ADUs and other resources. |
