Unscheduled maintenance on Hetch Hetchy water supply to temporarily impact Hayward water service
The Stack Extra

Hayward residents, businesses and other organizations might experience temporary changes in water service as the City of Hayward is temporarily switching its water supply from San Francisco’s Hetch Hetchy system to East Bay Municipal Utility District.
The change was initiated today at the request of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to allow for unscheduled maintenance on the regional Hetch Hetchy system, which is owned by the City and County of San Francisco.
Hayward’s municipal water system has an intertie connection to both the Hetch Hetchy system to the south and East Bay Municipal Utility District to the north. The opening and closing of valves and supply lines involved in making the temporary switch will likely result in temporary discoloration of water but poses no health issues.
It also may result in temporary changes in water pressure due to the change in the directional flow in water supply to Hayward from the south to the north.
