The Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is inviting Hayward community input on development plans for agency properties around and across B Street from the downtown Hayward BART station.

To provide information and gather input, BART is holding two open house-style events outside the fare gates of the downtown Hayward station on Wednesday, May 6, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and on Tuesday, May 12, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

The properties planned for development are the surface parking lot and driveway to the station garage on the west side of the station, a vacant lot on the north side between A, B and Montgomery streets, and the passenger and bus loading areas and designated parking for people with disabilities on the east side of the station.

BART and City of Hayward development and land-use planning for the area generally calls for transit-oriented, mixed-income residential development with ground-floor commercial spaces and other amenities. Development of the site east of the station would incorporate and preserve loading areas and parking for people with disabilities.

Following the open house events, BART and City staff plan to present a summary of feedback and project goals, along with an anticipated schedule of next steps, at public meetings of the Hayward City Council Economic Development Committee on June 1 and Council Infrastructure Committee on June 24.

For more information on the project—including a survey open until May 15 through which additional input can be provided—go to this Transit-Oriented Development at the Hayward Station page on the BART website.
