City of Hayward Afghan Relief efforts
The City of Hayward is committed to connecting its Afghan community members to affordable legal advice in multiple languages and other resources amid concern about the rapidly evolving situation in Afghanistan—and has established a City website to help facilitate these efforts.
We will work with immigration lawyers to compile answers to frequently asked questions and provided targeted assistance. Questions can be asked through an online form available on the City website at www.hayward-ca.gov/AfghanRelief.
The East Bay is home to one of the largest Afghan communities in the United State. The City of Hayward stands with our friends, neighbors and community members during this difficult time, and commits to working jointly with other local agencies and organizations to do so effectively efficiently and compassionately.
To that end, the City is in contact with multiple organizations to facilitate contact with and among community members seeking to provide assistance or in need of help, including the following:
- The Afghan Coalition, a community-based organization in the East Bay that provides support and services to local Afghan community members.
- The International Rescue Committee of Northern California, which helps refugees who have been granted sanctuary in the Bay Area become self-sufficient.
- Jewish Family & Community Services of the East Bay, which has a Refugee Services team that welcomes new refugee in the East Bay and helps them with resources. They also are looking for volunteers.
- Fremont's Afghan Refugee Help Fund, which will work with local Afghan partner organizations to determine priorities and needs of new arrivals to the United States. Funds will be used for housing, food, clothing, and other items or services to assist refugees expected to arrive in our area.
If you or an organization with which you are affiliated are looking to coordinate with the City of Hayward, you can contact City staff at community@hayward-ca.gov.
