Join National Night Out festivities—July 25 and Aug. 1
The Stack e-Newsletter: July 2023
National Night Out is an annual summertime event created to enhance police-community relationships and promote neighborhood camaraderie locally and across the country.
It all begins in Hayward with the annual Hayward Police Department-led Car-a-van through residential neighborhoods, launching from Southland Mall at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 25. The Car-a-van is intended to raise awareness about the annual National Night Out event taking place nationally on Aug. 1. No pre-registration is required for the Car-a-van, and the travel route from Southland Mall will be posted beforehand here.
One week later, neighborhood-based National Night Out gatherings will place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1. During National Night Out, which takes place annually on the first Tuesday in August, neighborhoods are encouraged to host events ranging from small potlucks and barbecues to large block parties.
Register your neighborhood event here before Tuesday, July 25, to make Hayward police and other City of Hayward representatives aware and so they can stop by and say hello.
Additional Neighborhood Night Out event ideas include ice cream socials, disaster preparedness trainings, games, contests, food and clothing drives, neighborhood clean-up and beautification projects, and discussion or planning of a Neighborhood Watch Program.
Or you can just show your support by leaving your porch light on between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
