Update regarding shooting near Mission Boulevard/Industrial Parkway
HAYWARD, Calif., The Hayward Police Department announces that the 18-year-old victim in the shooting near Mission Boulevard and Industrial Parkway was taken off life support and was pronounced deceased on July 3, 2024.
The shooting took place on June 27, 2024 at approximately 11:11 p.m. Officers located the two victims moments later near the 100 block of W. Tennyson Road after they fled the shooting scene and called 9-1-1 for help.
The first victim, a 17-year-old Pleasanton resident, was treated for gunshot wounds at a local medical facility and has since been released from the hospital.
The second victim, an 18-year-old Pleasanton resident, sustained critical injuries from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a medical facility for treatment and remained on life support until July 3, 2024. The victim was pronounced deceased, and this shooting is subsequently being investigated as a homicide.
There is no one in custody at this time. There is no indication that this shooting and the homicide that took place on June 26, 2024 are connected, however that is something being examined, and detectives hope to learn through the investigative process.
Evidence gathered in the case suggests that this was not a random act of violence. Furthermore, detectives are diligently following all investigative leads to identify those responsible, uncover motive, and determine the events that led up to the shooting.
Chief Bryan Matthews commented on the investigation, stating:
“Any loss of life is heartbreaking, and the loss of such young members of our community is even more difficult to comprehend. Our thoughts go out to the family and loved ones of the victims in this incident. While no words can heal the pain of losing a loved one, we want to assure the community that we are working tirelessly on this investigation to ensure that those responsible for this tragic event are brought to justice and that closure can be brought to the victim’s families.
We want to thank the community for their patience, support, and assistance with this investigation. Your cooperation and help have been invaluable to our efforts in seeking justice and ensuring the safety of our community.
