Hayward Celebrates Earth Day at Weekes Park!

March 26, 2024

Join the City of Hayward and the Keep Hayward Clean and Green Taskforce in our 41st annual celebration of Earth Day. The event will take place at Weekes Park on Saturday, April 20th and is packed with activities such as volunteer litter pickup, a community fair, live music, a raffle, and an art display.

The volunteer litter clean-up will begin at 8:30am, at which time attendees will be given gloves, a trash grabber, a vest, and trash bags. From there, participants are free to collect litter near Weekes Park or in the neighborhood of their choice. Following the litter collection, we will have a free lunch for volunteers catered by El Taquito and Tacos Uruapan and a community fair from 11:00-1:30 pm with several local organizations hosting sustainability-themed booths and activities. 100K Trees, Bike East Bay, and the Hayward Area Recreation & Park District (HARD), will be in attendance, along with many more!

In addition to the clean-up and community fair, there will also be a DJ, raffle, and art from our K-12 Earth Day Poster and Writing Contest will be on display.

Register here if you’d like to participate in the morning litter-pickup. Registration is required in order to receive a free lunch. If you are unable to make it to Weekes Park but would like to organize a litter pick-up in your neighborhood or school on April 20th, please contact Recycling and Outreach Fellow Elise Pierce at elise.pierce@hayward-ca.gov. The City of Hayward can provide your group with gloves, bags, and litter grabbers, and we will pick up your collected litter at the end of the day.
