Homicide Investigation – 25000 block of Cypress Avenue 

HAYWARD, Calif., On Thursday, March 21, at about 5:46 p.m., officers responded to the 25000 block of Cypress Avenue after receiving 9-1-1 calls regarding a woman yelling from inside an apartment. 

As officers responded to the scene, witnesses reported that a man was seen walking out of the residence where the disturbance was heard and left the area in a vehicle.  

Officers arrived on scene and located an unresponsive female inside an apartment, suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds. Medical personnel responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.  

At about 8:26 p.m., a man contacted police in another jurisdiction to report his involvement in this incident. The man was taken into custody and has been identified as 66-year-old Gary Barroga Garcia.  

Garcia was placed under arrest and is currently in custody for murder. 

Garcia and the victim were married and lived together in Hayward.  

The victim’s name is being withheld at this time.  

This is an active investigation, and more details will be released when they become available.
