Application period for Hayward Police Department Youth Academy now open
The Hayward Police Department is offering its annual Youth Academy program this July.
The application period, which began Firday, May 20, runs through Friday, Jun. 18, and is open to students entering the 8th through 12th grade for the 2021- 2022 school year. Classes will be held at the Downtown Hayward Library and the Hayward Executive Airport. Participants will be provided light snacks.
The Hayward Police Department’s Youth Academy educational program is designed to give students a greater understanding of how the Police Department is organized and operates in Hayward. Goals include educating students in their integral roles as community members, while strengthening their relationship with the police.
The Youth Academy is presented over four days, July 12-15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and covers the following topics:
- Gangs/Destructiveness of gangs
- Alcohol/Drug Abuse and Tobacco – Consequences of underage usage
- Forensics and Crime Scene Investigations
- SWAT Demo
- Traffic and Patrol Operations
- PD Physical Fitness/Obstacle Course
- K-9 Demo
- F.A.T.S. – Fire Arms Training Simulator
- HPD/Jail Tour
