Homicide suspect arrested – Located by U.S. Marshals Service in Seattle, Washington

HAYWARD, Calif., On Monday, May 22, 2023, at about 4:15 PM, homicide suspect, Vaughn Boatner was located and arrested in a residential neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Boatner was taken into custody by the United States Marshals Service, Seattle Police Department, and Kings County Sheriff's Office.

The Hayward Police Department had been actively searching for Boatner with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals and many other law enforcement agencies after Boatner was identified as the man believed to be responsible for a homicide and attempted homicide on May 11, 2023, on the 100 block of Cassia Dr in Hayward.

After receiving multiple calls of gunshots in the area, officers responded and located two adult victims inside a residence, suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel responded, and both victims were transported to a local medical facility for treatment. A five-year-old child was also inside the residence and was found unharmed.

The first victim, 30-year-old Monique Aldridge of Hayward, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The second victim, a 28-year-old-male of Oakland, has been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries. His name is still being withheld at this time.

It is believed that Aldridge and the second victim were in a dating relationship and lived together during the incident.

During the initial hours of the investigation, information was developed that led to the identification of Boatner as the man believed to be responsible for the murder of Aldridge and the attempted murder of the second victim.

During the investigation it was also learned that the five-year-old boy at the scene was Aldridge’s and Boatner’s child.

Following his identification, an arrest warrant for Boatner and search warrant for his residence were authored and approved.  The search warrant was executed, and Boatner was not located inside the residence.

As the investigation continued, information was gathered that led officers to believe Boatner had left the state. Boatner was located and arrested in a residential neighborhood of Seattle, Washington by the U.S. Marshals Service, Seattle Police Department, and Kings County Sheriff’s Office.

Many other law enforcement agencies assisted with this investigation as well, to include the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, the San Mateo Police Department, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, and various U.S. Marshals offices in the Bay Area.

Acting Chief Matthews responded to the news of Boatner’s arrest and said, “I am thankful for the peaceful resolution in this case and for the outstanding investigative work that led to Mr. Boatner’s arrest.  The collaboration between Hayward Police Department investigators, the United States Marshals Service, and our other law enforcement partners led to this outcome and serves as an example of the value of partnerships in keeping our community safe.  We continue to grieve with the Aldridge family and offer our support as they continue to navigate this difficult time.” 

The U.S. Marshals Service also provided remarks following the arrest of Boatner:

Boatner is currently being held without bail and has been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office with homicide, attempted homicide, child endangerment, and a felon in possession of a firearm.
