Food Action Plan Retreat Highlight Video
On March 22, 2023 the City of Hayward hosted Food Action Plan community-based organizations, service providers, and educational partners for a retreat to visit Santa Cruz. The day-long retreat included tours of the Homeless Garden Project and UC Santa Cruz’s Center for Agroecology. Partners learned from these holistic models and gained inspiration for ideas to bring back to Hayward.
The Process & Next Steps
From August 2022 through October 2023, the City of Hayward met with over 30 community organizations, educational partners, and service providers to gauge their needs and interest in participating in a Hayward-Specific food action plan.
Food Access & Security
At the beginning of the planning process, the Food Access & Security working group was polled to identify their priority areas on action items we could work towards.
Career Pathways & Entrepreneurship
A career path in local food systems can take many different forms, including farming and agriculture, public health, culinary, and education.
Food Recovery
Exploring ways to gather and distribute extra or unused food to help people in need instead of letting it go to waste.
Culture, Heritage & Community Wellness
Culture, Heritage, and Community Wellness focuses on preserving and celebrating the traditional food practices, customs, and knowledge of a community.
This could not be possible without your participation!
